Job Description:

The Olde School Group is an Enhanced Day-care Facility run by LLT Community Association in partnership with Craigavon & Banbridge Health & Social Services Trust. It provides day-care each Thursday, 10.00am-3.00pm to persons aged 65 years and over who:
• have gone through the rehabilitation programme at Crozier Lodge
• because of mobility restrictions are unable to avail of other day-care services
• can benefit from the mental stimulation of various activities

The service is staffed by a Trust Peripatetic Day-care Worker, the Association’s Centre Assistant, and volunteers. The project is based at the Community Centre, Drumnascamph Rd, Laurencetown.

Purpose of Role
The volunteer will work as part of a team to provide a quality service to the clients of this group.

Main Tasks
1. accompany clients to safely make their way to/from the minibus
2. assist clients in seating themselves as required
3. help prepare/serve tea/coffee on clients’ arrival
4. assist in the design/delivery of a programme of activities aimed at promoting mental stimulation, physical activity and social interaction
5. accompany clients, when required, as they transfer to different rooms or use the toilet. NB – clients will not need assistance to use the toilet except in extreme circumstances
6. help prepare/serve lunch for clients and clear-up afterwards
7. report to the Trust Peripatetic Day-care Worker any issues regarding the wellbeing of the client
8. at all times be aware of the health and safety of the clients

Training
Appropriate training will be offered when required to enable you to carry out your role efficiently and effectively. Some of this training eg Moving and Handling, Essential Food Hygiene, will be mandatory.

Hours
We ask volunteers to fill one of two timeslots either 10.00am-1.00pm or 1.00-3.00pm. Currently the project runs one day per week ie Thursday although this may increase to two days per week. However, we ask volunteers to make a commitment they feel comfortable with eg once a month, once a week.
